One Drank Cola. One drank coffee.

What these three average Americans had in common was kidney
disease. What you will learn from their stories could save your life or the
life of a loved one.

These three strangers—Mihoko, an Asian woman about 45, James, a white man about 40 and Bill, an African-American man about 60*—were all relaxing in the sauna at their health club. “How come I always see you drinking lots of water?” James asked Bill, trying to strike up a conversation. “My doctor told me to. I need to keep my one kidney clean as a whistle,” Bill replied. “One kidney? What do you mean?” Mihoko chimed in. Bill then proceeded to tell them how he lost his other kidney to disease. “I never thought it would ever happen to me. I figured that since I loved to drink beer, especially on hot summer days, I always had plenty of fluid passing through my body.” It turns out that 20 years of drinking beer had built up so much acid waste in Bill’s kidneys that these vital organs looked and felt like pieces of petrified wood. Bill’s doctor told him he had to cut the worst one out or he would die. Bill chose the operation. James got a worried look on his face and said, “I just went to the doctor because I saw blood in my urine. He told me that after a lifetime of drinking cola all day long, my pancreas is in trouble, I have type 2 diabetes and my kidneys are severely damaged.” At this point, Mihoko pipes up and says, “I had such bad lower back trouble that I finally went to the doctor. He said that my urine is so filled with uric acid, phosphates and waste products that it’s a wonder I can walk at all.” “What do you drink most of the time?” Bill asked. “Coffee,” she said. “I always drink buckets of coffee to get me going.”

BEER, COLA AND COFFEE – AMERICA’S FAVORITE POISONS?

©2008 The Institute for Vibrant Living, 661 E Howards Rd., Ste C., Camp Verde, AZ 86322 1-800-720-1245

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Fantastic Voyage

I'd like to take you on a trip with me. It could take several days. We'll travel stormy seas and cross dry deserts. It will be an arduous journey and you'll never be the same. Where are we going? California? Arizona? Nope! We're going to follow a piece of pizza as it travels through your digestive system.

You open that box with your favorite kind of pizza. The smell rises from the cardboard like a phoenix. You separate that nice big slice and take a bite. Your saliva glands are working like crazy. Your teeth begin to cut into and grind that crust, cheese, pepperoni, onions, olives ... (you get the idea) into a big wet ball of pizza pulp.

Three more chews and your tongue pushes the mass to the back of your throat and down it goes. Muscles in your neck begin to squeeze until it goes doooooown the esophagus tube. Automatically a valve opens and viola! The mush lands in your belly. And our journey is just beginning. We're going to take a close look at the digestive system and its importance to our overall health. Stay tuned.

BROWN VS. It’s not a court case either!

I wanted to weigh in on the subject of food processing regarding brown vs. white.

Take rice for example. Rice goes through a variety of processes before it gets to your table. After harvesting, a machine removes the outer husks. When this is done you're left with brown rice. Simple, huh?

To create white rice, there's an added step. The inner husk is removed and the grain is polished. This second removal process is what makes the rice white. Unfortunately, it comes at a price: a nutritional loss. The difference in minerals, vitamins and fiber is significant. Plain white rice has far less Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron and over a dozen other nutrients. Added to that, the dietary fiber contained in white rice is around a quarter of brown rice.

Surprisingly, this “brown is better than white” pattern does not seem to extend to sugar or eggs. (I can give you more on this if you ask) But generally, in regards to your health, brown is beautiful.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://hww-healthgirl.blogspot.com/2009/02/brown-vs-white.html' title='BROWN VS. It's based on the concept that for each different blood type there are foods which act as fuel, foods which help to keep you healthy, and foods which have a negative impact on your body and its functions. This information is addressed in the book "Eat Right 4 Your Type" by Peter D'Adamo, MD.

Have you ever noticed that some people can eat a variety of foods with no problems, while others suffer from gas, bloating, indigestion and heartburn? My husband can eat anything he wants with seemingly no adverse reactions while I on the other hand cannot.

Recent scientific research shows evidence that individual blood types can determine your predisposition toward certain health problems. The reason is that people with different blood types cannot digest the same foods equally.

Those in the health profession who question Dr. D'Adamo's approach usually site the lack of published research on the subject:

“It may well turn out that there are important interactions with between certain foods and one's blood type. D'Adamo, unfortunately, offers little in the way of scientific evidence.”

Edward Blonz, Ph.D

"I know of no plausible rationale behind the diet." John Foreyt, PhD

"Within the diet itself are generally good diet recommendations. D'Adamo doesn't say avoid vegetables and fruit, for example -- but his specific recommendations based on blood type -- the science is not there to support it. If you do know what it is, have you ever done one? And if you have done one, how often do you cleanse; once a year, twice a year, or seasonal? I personally have done them once a year and twice a year. I think they are so important in getting back your health. Think about babies: they eliminate every time they eat. We on the other hand eat several meals a day and may only elminate once a day. Therefore, the other meals are still inside us clinging to the walls of our colon. A colon cleanse will help remove this excess fecal matter. There's a lot of colon cleansing products on the market. I use Tiao He Cleanse (pronouced ty-hee). It's distributed by Nature Sunshine. What ever product you choose to use, cleanse for good health.
